My favorite Israeli custom is - The trip to Poland most Israeli high schoolers take. Contextualizing the past helps us look deeper into the future. My greatest Israeli childhood memory is - Walking around the Machne Yehuda market in Jerusalem on Friday mornings My first job was - An ice skating instructor at an amusement park The one person I would really love to meet for dinner is - Leonardo da Vinci I am most motivated by - My love of people and desire to make a dent in the world I am most discouraged by - Red tape, bureaucracy and formality The worst piece of advice I was ever given is - Don’t work with them, they might steal your idea and replace you. (This might be true is some other types of projects, but finding someone crazy enough to try and 3D print houses on Mars isn’t so easy).
The quality I most admire in a person is - Passion If I wasn't doing what I'm doing now, I would - Probably be getting my Masters at Harvard or MIT (I got in and declined/ deferred to work on the Mars Habitat instead) If I could, I would go back in time and tell my younger self that - I should worry less about my weaknesses and develop my strengths ruthlessly instead My favorite Hebrew word is - Combina (from combination, using the system to your advantage) One last thing before I go - My favorite quote is from Robert Goddard (rocket scientist) “It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.” I think most people don’t allow themselves to dream enough. And even ones that do, don’t have the courage and drive to translate the dreams into reality.
Helen’s genius can be found where architecture meets technology. She is founder and space architect of Bubble Base, an aerospace startup developing technology to 3D print housing on Mars for the NASA Centennial Challenge. She has served as architect in leading New York and Austria based firms before becoming a technology analyst in the VC industry. Helen holds a degree in Architecture from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design where she is Lecturer on “Technology Paradigms in Architecture.” She is a graduate of the MEET MIT Computer Science Program and Israel Academy of Arts and Sciences (outstanding honors) and has recently completed the International Space Studies Program as a Ramon Scholarship Fellow.
